Abstract

This talk introduces a geometric approach to Monge–Ampère operators and equations, rooted in the contact and symplectic structures of cotangent and first jet bundles over smooth manifolds. Developed by V. Lychagin, this framework builds on the ideas of E. Cartan and T. Lepage. The presentation will be self-contained, covering foundational concepts and discussing various applications, as well as connections to other key geometric structures.

Biography of the Speaker

Vladimir Roubtsov earned his MSc in Differential Geometry and Applications from Moscow State University in 1974 and his PhD in Higher Geometry and Topology in 1983. He has held research and academic positions at multiple institutions in the former Soviet Union. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Université d’Angers and a member of LAREMA (Anjou Research Mathematical Laboratory), CNRS (France). His research focuses on Poisson geometry, quantum groups, integrable systems, symplectic and contact geometric methods in nonlinear differential equations, and applications in hydrodynamics.
