From July 25 to 27, 2025, the "Seminar on the Latest Trends in Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning 2025," funded by the Mathematical Tianyuan Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation, and jointly organized by the School of Mathematics of Jilin University and the National Tianyuan Mathematics Northeast Center, was held at Zhengxin Building, Jilin University.
The conference invited experts and scholars from numerous international universities and research institutions to report on the latest research progress in applied mathematics. The convener of the conference was Academician Enrique Zuazua from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Special invited speakers included Academician Walter Gander from ETH Zurich, Professor Martin J. Gander from the University of Geneva, Professor Zhang Xu from Sichuan University, Professor Yuan Xiaoming from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Lü Qi from Sichuan University, Associate Professor Zhou Zhennan from Westlake University, and Assistant Professor Li Qianxiao from the National University of Singapore. Additionally, more than thirty experts and scholars from over ten domestic and international universities and research institutions, including the University of Burgundy, the University of California, Los Angeles, the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, City University of Hong Kong, Southwest Jiaotong University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Fudan University, Tianjin University, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and Jilin University, attended the conference. Zhang Ran, a member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jilin University, also attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
In her speech, Zhang Ran extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and expressed her heartfelt thanks and sincere respect for their long-term care and support for Jilin University, the Department of Mathematics at Jilin University, and the Tianyuan Mathematics Northeast Center. She pointed out that Jilin University has always attached great importance to international exchange and cooperation, adhering to the principle of promoting development through openness and seeking mutual benefits through collaboration. The university actively builds international exchange platforms and is committed to advancing the internationalization of higher education. This conference not only serves as a summary and tribute to past cooperative achievements but also aims to establish an international platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative exchange, bringing together experts and scholars from across the global mathematics community. It seeks to inject new vitality into the innovative development of the discipline, promote the deep integration of academic research and industrial applications, and contribute to the collaborative advancement of mathematics and interdisciplinary fields worldwide.

In his speech, Professor Enrique Zuazua, member of the European Academy of Sciences and professor at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, pointed out that with the development of information technology, the deep integration of applied mathematics and machine learning has become a trend. This symposium focuses on the frontier intersections of partial differential equations, control theory, and machine learning, exploring their progress and integrated applications in model construction, numerical solutions, and intelligent control. By deepening theory, refining modeling, and innovating methods, it can promote interdisciplinary integration and provide support for addressing complex challenges. This conference is precisely based on such a background and, after a year of careful preparation, aims to bring together global wisdom to jointly explore new frontiers in applied mathematics and machine learning, and to advance the discipline to new heights.

During the keynote presentation phase, more than twenty experts and scholars from over ten domestic and international universities and research institutes, including ETH Zurich, University of Burgundy, City University of Hong Kong, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered outstanding academic reports on the latest trends in applied mathematics and machine learning. Following the presentations, the participating experts and scholars engaged in open discussions, sharing their latest research findings and experiences, while also exploring cutting-edge academic developments.

The successful hosting of this seminar has provided experts and scholars engaged in related fields with a platform for learning and communication, deepened international academic exchange and cooperation, and effectively promoted the innovative development of mathematics disciplines in the Northeast region.
