Report Title:TANGENCIES AND POLYNOMIAL OPTIMIZATION

Reporter:Tien-Son Pham

Affiliation: Dalat University

Report Time: 9:30-10:30 June 30, 2026

Report Location: Room 306, Zhengxin Building

Abstract:

In this talk, the notion of tangency will be introduced. Then some (local and global) properties of an optimization problem with polynomial data will be presented in terms of tangencies associated the problem in question.

Bio:

Tien-Son Pham, a professor and doctoral supervisor at Dalat University in Vietnam, has long been engaged in research on singularity theory, semialgebraic optimization, and variational analysis. He has published over 70 academic papers in top optimization journals such as Mathematical Programming, SIAM Journal on Optimization, and Mathematics of Operations Research, and authored one academic monograph. In 2020, he was awarded the Ta Quang Buu Prize by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, and was selected for the "Top 100 Outstanding Scientists in Asia" list in 2021 (this list has been annually selected by the Asian Scientist Magazine since 2016 to recognize scientists who have made significant breakthroughs in scientific research or have won national/international awards). He currently serves as a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Advanced Mathematics in Vietnam.
