Abstract:
This talk presents recent advances in optimization under uncertainty with practical applications. We first cover robust and polynomial optimization including stable duality and hierarchy-based relaxations, followed by nonsmooth robust optimization. We then discuss bilevel and equilibrium programming highlighting mathematical principles and convergence results. A framework is illustrated with a real-world electric vehicle charging scheduling setting, showing how robust models and dual/relaxation schemes yield reliable and stable optimal values under uncertainty. Finally, we outline future research directions in robust multiobjective bilevel and large-scale practical optimization.
Bio:
Thai Doan Chuong is a lecturer (permanent faculty) and doctoral supervisor at Brunel University, UK. He graduated from the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnamese Academy of Sciences in 2011 with a PhD degree (under the supervision of Professor Nguyen Dong Yen). He has conducted research at various institutions including Pukyong University, University of New South Wales, Deakin University, and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. During this period, he was awarded the UNSW Goldstar Award 2017 by the University of New South Wales. His main research areas include vector optimization, polynomial optimization, and variational analysis. He has published over 80 high-level academic papers in international academic journals such as SIAM Journal on Optimization, Mathematics of Operations Research, and European Journal of Operational Research.
