5. Insurance Actuarial Minor Degree

(1)Introduction of the Major

Insurance Actuarial is a comprehensive applied science that uses modern mathematical methods and basic principles of economics to classify, evaluate and manage the financial risks of various insurance economic activities in the future by comprehensively applying the knowledge of mathematics, statistics, finance, insurance and demography. This major can perfectly interpret the items that require precise calculations in commercial insurance and various social security businesses, such as the determination of mortality, the structure of life tables, the determination of rates, the provision of reserves, the solvency of the insurer, and the rule of the occurrence of insurance accidents , the distribution rule of insured accident loss, the average loss and distribution rule of the insurer's risk, and the distribution of business surplus, etc., in order to ensure the stability and safety of insurance operation.

The minor insurance actuarial course (a bachelor degree in economics) offered by the School of Mathematics of Jilin University is mainly set up around the requirements of cultivating actuaries, taking into account the requirements of the North American actuarial examination and the Chinese actuarial examination. The curriculum covers all the exam content of the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries Examination (SOA) and the Chinese Associate Actuary Examination (CAA). While studying this course, students can directly take the examination of associate actuary. Jilin University has successfully joined the UCAP University Program of the Society of Actuaries. The full name of the UCAP project is Universities & Colleges with Actuarial Programs. It is an actuarial college program established by SOA to serve colleges and universities, and it is also a certification provided by SOA for colleges and universities that offer actuarial disciplines. Colleges and universities that pass this certification can obtain resources and funding under the SOAUCAP project, as well as recognition of the school's actuarial level.
