On the afternoon of August 27, Professor Yitang Zhang, a renowned Chinese mathematician and Chief Scientist at the Center for Applied Mathematics at the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, Sun Yat-sen University, visited Jilin University to deliver a Dingxin Lecture. He presented an academic report titled "The Landau-Siegel Zero Problem: History and Recent Progress". Zhang Ran, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jilin University, attended the lecture and presented Professor Yitang Zhang with a commemorative plaque for the "Dingxin Lecture". The lecture was chaired by Sheng Yunhe, Associate Dean of the School of Mathematics.

"What is the Landau–Siegel zero conjecture?" "How is it related to the famous unsolved problem in mathematics, the Riemann Hypothesis?" In the lecture, Zhang Yitang drew on his valuable experience and research exploration accumulated over many years in the field of number theory to introduce the history and applications of the Landau–Siegel zero problem. He also explained why such problems are difficult to solve and their significant importance, giving the teachers and students present a deeper understanding and insight into number theory research.

In her concluding speech, Zhang Ran stated that only through love can one achieve persistence. She introduced Professor Zhang Yitang's research experience and spirit of exploration to the students. She mentioned that, regardless of the type of work he engaged in or the difficulties he faced, Professor Zhang Yitang never delayed in pursuing mathematics. She hopes that students can, through the exemplary influence of Professor Zhang Yitang, remain steadfast in their passion in future studies and life, and, no matter what challenges and difficulties they encounter, advance courageously and never give up.

This Dingsin lecture was hosted by the Jilin University Association for Science and Technology, and co-organized by the School of Mathematics of Jilin University and the Northeast Center for National Tianyuan Mathematics. Representatives of teachers and students from the School of Mathematics, as well as interested high school students and their parents, attended the lecture on site.
