Mathematics and Applied Mathematics was approved as the national first-class characteristic major in 2007 and the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors in 2019. It trains students to have a solid mathematical foundation in mathematics and statistics, as well as comprehensive insurance actuarial and quantitative financial skills , So that they can become complex mathematical finance talents with good scientific literacy. In the curriculum setting, on the basis of maintaining the advantages of mathematics and statistics, it pays attention to the certification of basic courses such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), and Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Relying on this major, Jilin University joined the UCAP (Universities & Colleges with Actuarial Programs) program of the North American Association of Actuaries in 2019.
